Hi Chris and Susan here...
Imagine that!
A concept created in the 1800's is still alive and kicking today in the 21st century
How often do your friends, family, and colleagues speak fondly about working a 9-to-5 shift... a 40 hour week?
Probably never, right?
Certainly our memories of a working day were not anything close to a 9-5 and just before we retired from our management consultancy business we were working a 70 hour week!
So how did we get on to this subject today...
We were reading an interesting article today entitled "The 9-to-5 Workday Is So Last Century"
And coincidentally we were talking to one of our adult children who followed in Dad's footsteps to become an accountant
He's been working at home since the start of the pandemic alongside his wife and with two children under 6 there were certainly some challenges when incorporating work and home schooling as you may well know personally
But so many advantages too
Especially no 2 hour commute added to the day
Quality family time especially with the children instead of rushed bath time and a quick bedtime story before settling down to supper and the TV
The point is that not only has pretty much every aspect of our working lives changed since the 1800's but there's a big shift towards working from home now since the Covid 19 Pandemic
Our son is returning to his office next week but only for 3 days with the remaining 2 working from home
(He's in the UK like ourselves right now but we suspect it's like that where you live too)
Is this generally going to bring about one of the biggest changes in work culture and work-life balance we wonder?
Maybe you're thinking about this too?
Maybe you've been thinking about this for a very long time
