Hi Chris and Susan here...
We were not intending to write today but we opened an email this morning and felt we just had to address this
It was an article called This Pandemic Is Our Teacher
Now you're probably as fed up as we are with hearing the word and wondering when it will all end...
Certainly we're beginning to see that after 5 weeks people are becoming impatient to know that there's an end in sight
Even though we're used to working from home and been doing it for some 30 odd years...
It's not all about the 'working from home' though
It's the bigger picture
We started a journal on 15th March to record our daily thoughts commentary on what we were seeing and hearing
Why that date...
It was the morning after we got the news that our ski resort where our ski chalet business is located got closed on order of the French Government. Our business was closed just like that in the blink of an eye!
Until that moment it was something that was happening in China and we like much of the rest of the world were not taking too much notice
Now we're right in the middle of chaos and crisis and it was beginning to sink in that this was serious
And for a few days after dealing with the immediate problem and taking care of our business we just didn't know what to think or do
And we would be surprised if it wasn't the same for you
Unquestionably, this pandemic is a tragedy. People are suffering, dying and losing jobs, trapped indoors while their sanity wears thin.
What’s more, it’s possible that this hardship is only beginning, and the economic fallout will bring the greatest pain.
We have two choices at this point
- Choose to flood our consciousness with visions of catastrophe, and fall into anxiety and despair or
- We can reposition the situation as an opportunity for growth. When Warren Buffett sad "be greedy when others are fearful" he wasn't inviting you to become a robber baron ... he was encouraging us to find the opportunity in crisis
We don’t know your situation. Maybe you’re struggling to make ends meet or to put on a brave face for your family.
Maybe you’re fighting on the front lines of the intensive care unit or risking your health to keep the lights on for the rest of us (thank you)
Whatever the case, know that 7 billion of us are fighting the same battle and facing the same choice: lay down, or rise.
Times of disruption are fertile ground for massive growth. The conditions are ripe for us to evolve, to start something new, to go inward and re-emerge stronger...
If you're like us...
You can choose to see this hardship as just one more teacher
Just don't have any regrets about the decisions you make now!
Ask most people and they won’t point to what they’ve done, but what they haven't done. The wise see 'boneheaded' moves as lessons on the path of life that fuel our growth. But like so much on that road, the only way to arrive at that state of peace
is by choosing to see it that way.
This crisis is just one more invitation to choose
Why have we gone deep into this today you might be thinking?
Two things actually...
The first
Mum is feeling really down and her words to us today were "I don't want to live the last years of my life like this"
We absolutely understand this and we're thinking about how we can change that and give her what she wants without compromising her health and well being...
That's a difficult one trust us and we're sure that conversations like this are going on in homes all around the world...
And we're going to have to be careful the choices we all make
The second
We've been here before back in 2008 and even though it wasn't anything like this it has felt like déjà vu for us
But it wasn't until 12 months later it really sank in that we had lost our retirement savings and we had to find courage in a big dose and make a choice to do something about it
When you have the courage to take off your rose-colored glasses and face a crisis honestly, you collect valuable information about the situation, and a potential solution will often present itself
It did for us
We were lucky to meet a young 27 year old man who would show us the way out of our personal crisis
We placed our trust in him and we thank goodness we did as without him we can't even imagine where we might be today
The reason for bringing this up is that he's currently running a series of "on demand" webinars (meaning you choose the date and time) so you can find out how to Make Your First 10K Online
It's a pretty simple choice you have to make
How our leaders and we act in the next several months will determine how we weather this a once-a-century pandemic
Either accept the opportunity it gives us or do nothing
We think you're likely to accept the opportunity or you wouldn't be reading this would you...
Hope it was ok to interrupt your weekend and give you some food for thought
Meanwhile...
Stay safe and makes sure to connect with family and friends and remember to give them a virtual hug 🤗
